Ecuador Day 2

Today we hiked up to the snow line of Cotopaxi Volcano.  The snow line is about 16,000 in elevation.  It was only about a 1 mile hike, but it took us almost an hour because we had to stop so often to catch our breath. The oxygen content in the air at sea level is about 21%, at 16,000 feet it is 11%.

 Altitude 4864 meters, 15,953 feet
There were some kids at the top who had never seen snow before.  They were so excited.

Kirt rode a bike down for a few miles.  I chose not to and took a nap on the bus instead.  I was so glad I did because it hailed on him while he was riding.  I slept right through it.

Equador Day 1

We flew all day on November 10th and got to Equador late that night.  We had rented a place on Air B&B, but when we got there, there was no one there to greet us.  We tried calling the number in the listing and no one answered.  So we got a cab and went down the road to a very expensive hotel.  Good start to the vacation.  The next morning, we got up and walked around Quito.

Basilica del Voto Nacional.  This church looks really old, but it is actually one of the newest churches in Quito.  It opened in 1924. It has all of the strange gargoyle like things on it, but instead of being gargoyles, they are animals that are indigenous to Equador.
 Armadillo gargolyes
 Caiman gargoyles
 Baboon gargoyles
 Turtle gargoyles
 Komodo dragon gargoyles

 Pretty door on the church

Monument of La Virgin de Panecillo Located in Quito Hills
Compania de Jesus Chuch in Quito.  It is all lined in gold.

 Market in Quito
It started to rain and I have never seen rain come down so hard and so fast. The streets were flooded in a matter of minutes.
No trip would be complete without pictures of the food.

Horizon Middle School Auction

I was in charge of the Harvest with the Hawks auction for Horizon again this year.  It is so much work, but it makes a ton of money so it is worth it.

Halloween 2016

Carving pumpkins at Cam and Rachelle's.  Since GG moved she doesn't have room to do pumpkin carving at her house anymore so Cam took over the tradition.
