Garret's Junior Year Tennis Season

District playoffs at U-High

Garret and Shane and Big Mike and Riley-2 of the U-high doubles teams

Grammy brought all the little kids on Grammy day to watch Garret play.

The day they went to state was also Garret's birthday

Grammy made cinnamin rolls and Kirt made bacon and sausage for all the boys on their way to state and for Garret's birthday.  (I had to work again.)  They let 4 other boys go to state with Garret and Shane even though they didn't qualify for state. The boys rode over in a van with Coach Rob.  Coach Rob bought small single shot nerf guns and gave them to everyone but Garret and they all shot him all day.  Then that night, Coach gave Garret a huge nerf gun with multiple nerf bullets and Garret was able to get revenge.  Garret and Shane got their own room since they were playing in the tournament and the other 4 boys had to share a room.  Coach Rob also got all the boys new state polos.

State was in Vancouver Washinton

They had to play a play in game to even be in the tournament.  If they had lost it, they would have just played that game and gone home.  But they won their play in game easily and were in the tournament which was double elimination so they got 2 more games.  They lost both of those unfortunately, but it was still so fun to go to state and watch them play.  They played a team from Mead that they had played in both districts and regionals.  In districts they lost to them 0-6, 0-6.  In regionals it was 2-6, 2-6. In state they lost 5-7, 4-6, so a much closer game.  They improved every time they played

I had made arrangements to ride over and share a hotel room with Shannan since both of husbands were not able to go.  Then my dad said that he really wanted to go too.  So we ended up all 3 going over together.  Dad even let us take his nice new car.  I sat in the back most of the way and let Shannan and dad talk.  I'm not sure who talks more.  We drove over Thursday night and stayed the night in a hotel.  We were hedging that they wouldn't win 3 matches and didn't get a room for Friday night.  We were sad they lost, but also glad since we didn't have a hotel room.  We drove home Friday afternoon after their 3 match. The boys stayed Friday night.  They went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner.  They watched a bunch of matches Saturday and then came home Saturday night.

Cool indoor courts.  Good thing it was mostly indoors,  there were a few outdoor matches, because it was cold and rainy.

Warming up for the 1st match

Cool way that they displayed the game and set score

They won the first match

Swimming at the hotel

They went to the mall and Coach Rob bought this shirt.  He was actually the assistant coach this year, but Dan Tenney, the head coach, got really sick and was unable to coach.

Sleeping on the ride home

Garret's Coach Dan Tenney.  He had heart problems during the season and has been hospitalized.  Several boys from the team went down to the hospital after the season and visited him and took him a sweatshirt from state.

Garret's AAU Aurburn Tourament

Garret and I went over to Auburn for his AAU basketball tournament.  We stopped at the outlet malls in North Bend on the way over (and thankfully avoided a huge traffic jam in doing so) and there was a really pretty rainbow.  We had a fun time.  We got to share a king bed (Garret's favorite part).  We watched Cars, the Disney Movie.  We went to lunch at Red Robin with his teammates.  His team is good and fun to watch play.

Cruise Day 10 & 11-April 6th & 7th

We got off the boat at 9am on Saturday morning.  We don't fly home until 6pm tomorrow night (the flights were way cheaper). We got a shuttle and went back to Orlando.  We went to our hotel room.  Luckily they let us into our room early.  We watched the noon, 4pm, and 8pm session of general conference (yuck, I would not like living on the east coast during conference time).  Sunday we watched the noon session and then went to the airport.  We listened to the 4pm session at the airport and then flew home.  We almost missed our connection in Seattle, but thankfully we barely made it.  It was a long few days.  One good thing was Kirt and I both got upgraded to 1st class for both legs on the way home.
