China Day 11

Today we rode rafts down the Yulong River.  Then we rode bikes down a path along the Yulong River.  We stopped at a place with a huge banyon tree.  We also did a hike up to Moon Hill. Then we rode our bikes back to our hotel. Kirt and I went and watched cormorant bird fishing at night.

Riding the bamboo rafts down the Yulong River.  These were not motorized. The guides just used a long bamboo stick to push off the bottom to help propel us downstream.

There were all these small man made concrete damns that made small rapids for us to ride down.

 Views along the biking path.

 Another of the dams.
A guy walking across the dam to the other side.

I don't think that Chinese people are very good swimmers because there were signs everywhere that there was no swimming because it was dangerous.  It didn't look very dangerous to us.
There were stairs occasionally along the bike path  to try and keep the electric scooters off the paths.  The paths were supposed to be just for bicycles and walkers, but the scooters would use them anywhere they could.

The banyon tree was in a park that had other activities like shooting a bow and arrow,
and sitting on a water buffalo.
More people that wanted pictures with Garret.

At the place that we ate lunch, this little boy came up to Katie and was talking to her in English.  He told Katie that she was beautiful.
This is Moon Hill.  We hiked up to the top of it for the view.
Views from Moon Hill.

Hiking path to Moon Hill.  It was very slippery from the mud.
 Biking back to our hotel.

Kirt thought this sign was funny.
They use the cormorant birds for fishing.  They tie a string around the bird's necks that prevents the birds from swallowing the fish when they catch it.  The birds dive down and catch a fish.  When they surface with the fish, the fisherman pulls them to the boat by the string and pulls the fish out of the bird's mouth.  Then they give the bird a smaller fish that they can swallow as a reward.

This is the fish that one of the birds caught.
Kirt was brave and held one of the cormorants.
