Katie got a text from her high school coach Jazmine last Monday when we were in Island Park asking her if she wanted to play on an AAU team. She knew that Katie had lost her AAU team during COVID and she had been contacted by a coach in Seattle that she knew who was looking for a player because someone on his team had been injured. We talked to the coach on Tuesday and Katie decided that she wanted to play. They had a tournament in Boise starting the following Monday July 5th. So we got home from Island Park and turned around and drove to Boise a few days later. Grammy and Garret came with us too. Luckily Ryan and Angela let us stay with them so we had some fun cousin time too. We got there Monday night and Katie had her first game. She was so brave and went and played hard with a team that she had never met before. She had 2 games on Tuesday, 2 on Wednesday, and 1 more on Thursday morning. We headed home Thursday right after her game. She was 2-4 for the tournament. She had 2 games with 15 points! It was fun hanging out with the Spear's between games! Wednesday we even got to go to the mall, have lunch at Chic-fil-A, and get pedicures.
The team name is Northwest Blazers PSA Fury. The coaches that coached the tournament were Jason Marr (head coach at Mount Si High School), Karim McDonald (head coach at Green River Community College), and Kyra Wendling (assistant coach at Pacific Lutheran University)
The players on the team were Lauryn Frederickson (Fred), Ava Uusitalo, Angie Cavanaugh, Jazmyn Shipp, Jenna Schmidt. Those were the only girls that always played with the U17 team. Then they had some of the younger girls take turns filling in and playing a little.
Katie played one game at Mt View which is the high school that the Spear kids go to so Angela had to take Katie's picture with the mascot.
