Church History Trip Day 8

Wednesday we had to get up early to get tickets to do stuff in Nauvoo.  There are so many people that come to Nauvoo that you have to get tickets to do the activities.  We looked around the visitors center and then went to a play called "Just Plain Anna Amanda".  It was about a teenage girl and her life in Nauvoo.  They have 3 month mini-missions in Nauvoo that young adults can be called on to perform in these plays in Nauvoo.  They have to try out to get called on these missions.  They were very talented.  Jenny Wagstaff was on one of these missions.  She performed in the Brass Band.  Then we went on a Carriage Ride around the outskirts of the city.  They told us pioneer stories on the ride.  We walked through the Women's Garden that had beautiful sculptures of women.  Then we went on the Wagon Ride. The wagon took us through the historic city of Nauvoo and pointed out all the sites.  We went to the Family Living Center and learned about candle making, bread making, and how to make yarn from wool. We went and toured some of the buildings like the Print Shop, John Taylor's home, the Post Office, and the Browning Gun Shop.  It had started to look a big stormy at 2pm.  Around 2:30pm while we were in the Gun Shop, a huge storm came.  It came on so fast.  The water rose so fast that it was coming in under the doors of the building and it was blowing so strong that it was blowing through all the seams in the doors because they weren't built as tightly as our doors today.  The tornado sirens also went off 2 times.  It was crazy.  When it died down a bit, we made a run for our car.  We drove around a bit.  We had tickets for another show that was inside at 4, so we went to that.  It was called "The Promise" and it followed a family in Nauvoo and told the history of the town.  After dinner we went to the country fair where they had pioneer games like stilts, puppets, tug a war, stick pull and more.  Then we watched the British Pageant.  It was about a bunch of the British Saints that joined the church and came to Nauvoo.  It was good, but long.
