It is finals week this week. Today was 3rd and 4th period finals. Katie, Mady, and Olivia have seminary 3rd period and it was cancelled today.  So they didn't have to be to school till 10:30.  They all came over before school and Katie made them breakfast.

Katie is Loaded

Katie has been cleaning once a week for a girl named Amber McArthur in the Painted Hills ward.  She cleans on Saturday morning for 2 hours and makes $25.  We finally went to the bank today and deposited a bunch of her checks.  She got out $25 in $1's so that she could pay her tithing.  Keep up the hard work Katie!

MLK Day Snowboarding

Kirt, Garret, and the Murray's (Brad, Bridger, and Lincoln) went snowboarding and skiing at Lookout for MLK day.  Garret is getting pretty good at snowboarding.  Kirt said it was some of the best snow he's ever boarded on.  Lookout had gotten a ton of new powder over the weekend.

Garret Receives the Aaronic Priesthood and Gets Ordained a Deacon

Garret received the Aaronic Priesthood and was ordained a Deacon today by his dad.  It was kind of weird because he is not 12 yet.  He is in the 1st group of kids that get to advance in January of the year they turn 12, instead of on their actual 12th birthday.  He is done with primary and gets to go to YM now!  He is so excited.

Katie Loves Her Cousins

Jon and Cam and their families came for dessert today.  Katie is so good with all the little cousins.  And they just love her too.

Whitworth VS Pacific Lutheran University

We went to Boston Tacke's basketball game on Saturday night.  Boston is Tanner's friend.  They played basketball together in middle school and high school  Boston goes to PLU. He didn't get to play but it was fun to see him.  His mom says he really doesn't like it.  The coach is not a nice guy. Holly (Boston's mom) said that 2 of the starters quit.  That is saying something if 2 of the guys that are playing quit.  Justine (Boston's girlfriend) and tons of her family were there (like her mom, step-dad, Charlie (her brother), her grandma, all her aunt, uncle and Gavin and Chloe (cousins) that live across the street from us). I thought that was kind of funny that they all came.

Garret's 1st YM Basketball Game

Garret gets to play YM"s basketball this year for the 1st time.  He did great and scored 11 points.

Stinky Sneaker 2019

At the pep assembly at school before the games today, they brought all the senior basketball players out onto the court and blind folded them.  Then they told them that a cheerleader was going to kiss them on the cheek and they had to guess what cheerleader kissed them.  Well it wasn't the cheerleaders, it was their moms, except for Logan Phillips and it was his dad.  It was pretty funny.
Stinky Sneaker is the big rivalry game between our high school, U-High, and the other high school in our district, CV.  The girls play, then between the games, each school does a performance, then the boys play. The whole thing is a huge spirit competition and the winner gets a trophy that is a Stinky Sneaker. The girls lost in a nail biter.  They had several chances to win but couldn't quite do it.  Ellie Boni dribbled off her foot on the last play of the game.  I bet she was so sad.  The half time shows were fun.  U-high was the Shoevengers (Avengers) and CV was Shoes (Cars). I really thought U-High's half time show was way better, but CV won the Shoe for the 3rd year in a row.  The U-High boys beat CV though, so that was good.

U-High VS CV Game

Katie had the big CV-U-High game.  Unfortunately, they got creamed.  I remembered on Monday night about 6pm about the stinky sneaker baskets.  None of her coaches had said anything about them.  I had to work from 7pm-1am. So I got up early Tuesday morning and put the baskets together all by myself.  It was ok.  I was just glad I remembered.  The girls would have been sad if they hadn't gotten anything.  I think they turned out ok.

Some of the YW in our ward came to watch Katie play. Olivia Tolley, Zoe Killinger, Esther Killinger,  Kendyll Fry and her YW President Sarah Hawkins.

Dinner with the Reynolds Family

We went to dinner with this family named the Reynolds.  The dad, Tom, is Kirt's 3rd cousin.  Kirt met him at the encampment.  Well actually he met him at the McDonald's in Newport where they had both gone to do a some work during the encampment.  Grandma York's maiden name is Reynolds so Kirt asked Tom if he had any relatives in Vernal and Tom said he did.  Kirt pulled out his family search, and they found out that their great, great grandpa's are brother's or something like that.  Small world.  Anyway, Tom is a dentist in the Airforce, and they are living in Cheney for 3 years.  They have 7 kids.  They were really nice.  It was fun to meet them.

Rough week

It was kind of long week this week.  Katie had a head cold and a high fever and was home from school on Wednesday and Thursday.  Then Friday morning, right after I left for work, Garret threw up.  Luckily Kirt was able to work from home and be home with Garret.  He didn't feel well all day Friday and Saturday.  He had to miss his basketball game that he had been looking forward to, and the 1st Saturday of YM's basketball.  I don't like having sick kids.

Katie had a funny saying this week.  Kirt was helping her with her Spanish homework and Kirt told her to rethink something.  She replied "I can't rethink if I never thunk." Classic Katie

Stake Conference

Elder Mishkin an Area Authority was presiding at our stake conference.  The bishops and their wives were invited to have dinner with Elder Mishkin.  After we ate he talked to us for a bit ,and I really enjoyed it.  He talked about how Christ's path leads from truth-light-joy-eternal life while Satan's path leads from lies-darkness-misery-captivity and death.  He talked about how we needed to stop going down Satan's path as soon as we can.  The best place to stop is when we hear his lies, like you are a nobody, you can't do it, nobody loves you, etc.  He says we need to realize the lies and where they are coming from and remember the truth that the Savior offers us, you are a child of God, you can do hard things, you are of infinite worth, etc.  He said that if we are further down Satan's path, that we need to find the lie that we have been deceived by and replace it with truth so that we can get back on Jesus's path.
