China Day 5

Today we got up and watched the GU game.  They lost to Texas Tech unfortunately.  We didn't get to watch much of it because the internet connection was so bad.  Then we went and left our luggage at the train station.  We took a taxi from the train station to church.  It was a branch of about 70 people.  They have to read a statement every week that the Chinese government makes them read that states that no one with a Chinese passport can be at church and that they can't proselyte to anyone with a Chinese passport.  So everyone there were people working in Embassy's or ex-pats.  Then we went to the Jade Buddha Temple.  Afterwards we caught a bullet train to Beijing.

A few more pics from our balcony in Shanghai.

Eating lunch, we are getting good at using chop sticks.
You can't turn down ice cream from DQ.
Kirt and I went to the bathroom and Katie and Garret were trying to hide from us when we came out.

Train station in Shanghai.
The train was going 350kph which is about 215mph.  We went 800 miles in about 4 hours.
The subway was closed when we got to Beijing so we had to take a taxi from the train station to our Air B&B.  This was the line for the taxi.  We had to wait about an hour and a half.
Squatty potties. These are all over China.  This is a really clean one.  Some of them were really gross. After Garret had to go poop in one the first time, he came out and told Katie and I all about it.  We were sitting on a bench on a busy road in Shanghai.  He was displaying his squatting method and telling us the best way to squat.  The nice elderly couple sitting next to us was cracking up.  I don't think they understood English, but they definitely knew what Garret was doing based on his actions.

China Day 4

Today we went to the Shanghai Museum.  It was a huge museum.  We don't love museums, so we didn't make it through all of it.  We made it about 2 hours before we had to bail, but we enjoyed what we did see.  Then we went to People's Square Park and walked around.  After that we went to the Tianzifang neighborhood.

On the way to the museum, we stopped and got jianbing, a folded crepe type thing with veggies and meat in it.

There were lots of school aged children sitting on the floor drawing the clothing.  Some of them were really talented.

People's Square Park
In the park every Saturday, mom's line the walkways with their umbrellas.  On their umbrellas is a resume about their sons.  They are trying to find a wife for their sons.

All the trees were blooming and they were so beautiful!
You could rent a costume and dress up in the park for pictures
Garret joined a group of people doing what looked like interpretive dance of some form.
He also played basketball with some boys in the park.
Some interesting instruments that were being played in the park.
Their power lines were all over the place.

Tianzifang neighborhood.  It had shops and food stalls.

Garret buying his James Harden bobble head.
Sugarcane juice.  It was disgusting. Kirt liked it of course.

Super long french fries with Thai sauce on them.
Yummy Chinese food dinner.
