Garret Goes on Trek

Garret got to go on Trek.  It was Wednesday-Saturday June 26-29.  His Ma and Pa were Dulce and Clay Tenney (they are actually the people that bought Grammy and Pompa's house).  His trek family was  Reagan Young, Kora Daines, Jade Almengor, Paige Dalton, Noah Ward, Jordan Folsom, and Mcewan Haney. They went down to a church owned trek called Bing Canyon Pioneer campy approximately 10 miles northwest of Plymouth Washington.  They rode school buses to the camp on Wednesday.  When they got there, they hiked about 3 miles and then set up camp.  It was super windy that night with winds up to 30 miles an hour.  It made setting up camp really difficult.  Thursday they hiked about 8 miles. Friday they hiked about 4.  They got back to the place called Zion on Friday, a grassy area with running water and got to have a whole afternoon of free time.  They ran through the sprinklers, visited, played games and spike ball.  Saturday they rode the school buses home.

From Garret's Pa, Clay Tenney. Garret is such an amazing young man.  The depth of his testimony filled me with such hope and confidence in this rising generation.  I can feel how much he loves the Lord and seeks to do the right.  He is so kind, compassionate and attentive to the thoughts and feelings of others. His sense of humor was so welcoming.  You have been blessed with one of Heavenly Father's noble and great souls.  I know that much of who he is and has become is because of wonderful parents.  It was a pleasure and a blessing having Garret in our trek family.

Garret wrote this to Katie: Trek was awesome Katelyn. It was a great experience. It make me think about the saints and how they walked for miles and miles and starved and froze. They sacrificed everything to come closer to Jesus Christ. And makes me think about what am I willing to sacrifice to come closer to Jesus Christ. I am willing to sacrifice 2 years of my life and make Christ the focus of my life.

Dockside With Old Friends

Sarah Hawkins (front right), Virginia Judkins (front left), Jenna Coffey (back right), and I served in a RS presidency in the 10th ward from 2006-2009ish.  We used to go to the Dockside and have dessert fairly regularly.  We haven't done it in years, but we went today.  It was so fun to catch up and hear what everyone has been doing in their lives.  And of course the dessert was delicious.

Tanner and Emilie Come to Spokane

Tanner and Emilie came to visit from June 3-10 before they head to Hawaii.  We had lots of fun while they were here.

Tuesday we went to lunch with Pompa at Flamin' Joes.  Then we went to Grammy and Pompa's and played games.  Tanner and Garret started talking trash to each other about who could beat who in tennis, so we went to U-High to see who was better.  Garret schooled Tanner 6-0, but Tanner did have a mean serve. They had a nice evening soak in the hot tub that night.

Wednesday we went for a hike on Anton Peak.  Then we went and watched Garret play tennis.  He is in a summer league where he plays matches against other people with similar UTR scores.  He lost his match to Robbie, the kid from Mead, unfortunately, but it was fun to watch him play.

Thursday we went and rode the Hiawatha Trail.  It was so beautiful.  The tunnel was super wet so we were very muddy.

Tanner and Garret we so muddy they had to take their shirts off for the car ride home.

Friday, just Tanner, Emilie and I went to the lake.  Garret had to go to school and Kirt had to work. We didn't take any pictures. We went and watched Garret play basketball in the West Valley Tournament after lake.

Saturday we went to the lake again.  It was a gorgeous day.  The water was so cold, but we all put on wet suits and went in the water anyway.

Sunday we went to shakes at Grammy's and Pompa's and to visit with the rest of the family.  We played wiffle ball at the school across the street.

Monday, Kirt and I both had to work, so Tanner, Emilie, and Garret went to the lake themselves.  They stopped by my work and said good-bye to me on the way to the airport.  It was so fun to see them.  We are going to miss them so much, but we are excited for the adventures that they are going to have in Hawaii!
