Italy Trip Day 4

We went to the Gallerie dell 'Accademia today.  It was full of medieval art and was not our favorite.  We were glad that it was free today. We walked through the beautiful streets back towards the train station.  At the train station, we took a Vaporetto to Lido Island. The Vaporetto didn't go down the Grand Canal, but around the opposite way which was fun because we got to see new views.  When we got to Lido, we had lunch and then rented bikes and rode around the island.  There are pretty beaches on Lido and this is where Venetians go to the beach in the summer.  We rode the Vaporetto back and then went and wandered the streets some more.  We took a gondola across the Grand Canal so that we could say that we rode a gondola.  It's just 2 Euro to ride across the canal, but to rent one for an hour is like $80-$100 Euro so we will stuck to the Vaporetto.  We explored a the Basilica San Maria della Salute. Then we rode the Vaporetto to another island to see the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore.

Church we saw on the way to the Accademia Museum called Chiesa di Santa Maria del Giglio.

Bridge of Sighs, it connects Doge's Palace to the Prison and is the last time prisoners would often get to see the outside through the windows of the bridge before they went to prison.

Taking a short gondola ride across the Grand Canal.  One of the ladies that rode with us was refusing to sit on the side that the gondolier was telling her to side on because it was wet and we almost flipped into the canal. We did not get serenaded unfortunately.  Actually we never saw anyone getting sung to.  Maybe it's not a thing anymore.

We rode the gondola over to see the Basilica San Maria della Salute.
