Today we took the train from Venice to Cinque Terre. We had 3 different legs. We changed trains in Florence and in La Spezia. We almost missed our connections in both places and had to run through the train stations, but we made both of them. Cinque Terre is 5 adorable little hilltop villages on the west coast of Italy. The 5 towns are from North to South Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. We stayed in Monterossa. When we got to Monterosso, we found our Air BNB. It was up a lot of steps. Glad I don't have to walk up them every day. It is also so tiny. After we dropped our stuff off, we rode the train back to Riomaggiore and explored that town. Then we rode the train to Manarola and explored it. You used to be able to walk between all 5 of the towns, but the trails from Corniglia to Manarola and Manarola to Riomaggiore are currently closed so we had to use the train. After exploring Manarola we took the train back to Monterosso.
One last view of Venice before we leave. We were sad to say goodbye. It was such a magical place. It did sprinkle on us just a little bit this morning, but it was the only time that we got rained on the whole trip. When we left, it said that there was a high probability that it was going to rain most of the 1st week that we were there so we feel very blessed.
View of the ocean from Monterosso. The water was so blue!
1st order of business-lunch! We had some yummy paninis for lunch. And then we saw some people with some French fries, so we had to get some of those too.
The train going through the tunnel in Monterosso.
