Italy Trip Day 2

We got to the Milan airport about 8:30am after flying all day and all night the day before (well we lost 9 hours too).  We went through immigrations and customs.  Then we caught our train into downtown Milan.  We had a little trouble finding our platform, but we eventually found it.  When we got into Milan, we walked a few blocks to our hotel, Hotel Berna.  We got there about 10am.  We were lucky, and they had our room ready, so we were able to check in early and go and freshen up a bit.  We then walked about 45 minutes to see the Last Supper painting by Leonardo Da Vinci is. It was painted between 1494-1498.Leonardo’s Last Supper is located in its original place, on the wall of the dining room of the former Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Then we took a guided walking tour of Milan. Afterwards we went and toured the Duomo Milan Central and rode and elevator to the top of the church and were able to see a view of old town Milan.

Outside of the train station.

Last Supper Painting

The building where the Last Supper is painted on the wall was bombed by Hitler in WWII.  These pictures show what the building looked like after it was bombed and how they restored the Last Supper Painting.

Santa Maria delle Grazie, the church where the Last Supper Painting is painted on the wall.

Castello Sforzesco which was originally built in the 1300's

Pictures of the beautiful streets of Milan

There were lots of beautiful roof top gardens.

Milan is famous for it's swanky shopping.  This is Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery. It is a very upscale and expensive shopping mall.  It had stores like Prada, Armani, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Gucci.

The gallery's floors are decorated with the signs of the zodiac and at the building's octagonal center, you may notice a crowd gathered around one of the figures: Taurus the Bull. A symbol borrowed from the Savoy coat of arms, the bull is said to bring good luck to those who spin on their heels three times over his testicles. This would explain the deep hole that has formed in the pavement below the animal's attributes.

We rode an elevator to the top of the Duomo.  We got to see amazing views of all of downtown Milan.

Inside the church in Milan.  It had the most beautiful stained glass windows.
This is St Bartholomew.  He was supposedly skinned alive and in this statue he is wearing his skin.

Our first gelato.  We had gelato every day that we were in Italy.  It is so delicious.
Our hotel room in Milan.  The bathroom had a weird blue light.  All of the bathrooms had a bedeau.
