We went to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It is HUGE! It has works by Botticelli, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Caravaggio. Then we went to a view point where we could see the whole city. We went to the Basilica di San Miniato al Monte and the Basilica di Santa Croce. We did some souvenir shopping and my mom and Jessy both bought leather purses. We walked the streets some more and went to the Basilica Santa Maria Novella and the Orgnissanti Church.
Botticelli-Primavera
Botticelli-Birth of Venus
Portrait of Guidobaldo da Montefeltro-Raphael
Michelangelo-Holy Family
There were a lot of pictures of baby Jesus and it seemed that everyone had a difficult time painting a baby. They were all very unrealistic looking. This one was the worst though. Baby Jesus looks like he has clown makeup on. It was also very interesting. In most of the pictures, John the Baptist (the guy on the far left with red hair in this picture), was almost always an adult in the paintings with baby Jesus even though he was only 6 months older than Jesus.
Another pretty odd baby Jesus.
Caravaggio-Medusa Shield
We thought this was actually a pretty good picture of baby Jesus.
Pretty garden we walked through on our way up to the view point of the city.
City view point
Basilica di San Miniato al Monte
Basilica di Santa Croce (It cost money to go in this one so we didn't go in it. We figured we had seen enough churches.)
The market where Jessy and my mom bought their purses.
Basilica Santa Maria Novella (it was having a service and we couldn't go inside)
Orgnissanti Church. Botticelli's remains are in this church.
This is where Botticelli is buried and that is a painting of him.
