Italy Trip Day 3

After sleeping from 8pm-8am, we woke up felling pretty rested.  We luckily did not have a hard time changing our sleeping clocks at all.  We were so grateful for that.  We had a delicious breakfast at our hotel, checked out and went and caught a train to Venice.  Venice is definitely on my list for one of the coolest places ever.  It did not disappoint.  We got off the train and walked out of the station and it was like Hallelujah.  Venice is right there in all of it's beauty. We bought water bus tickets and after much discussion got on a water bus.  They were not labeled very well.  We chose wrong, and had to get off of it, but luckily it had been going in the right direction and we were not in a hurry.  We found the right bus and rode it to the stop for our Air BNB.  That was really our only mishap of the whole trip, for which we were very grateful.  We did very well navigating.  And google maps is the best invention ever.  It worked so well and was always correct!  Thank you for this wonderful app!! We found our Air BNB and were able to get right into it.  The hall ways up to it were a little sketchy but the room was nice. Then we went out and explored.  The city is amazing.  It is just so pretty.  We went to St Mark's Square and into the St Mark's Basilica.  I just can't believe how pretty and huge and ornate these churches are.  We then rode the elevator up St. Mark's Campanile, the bell tower for St. Mark's Basilica. The original one fell down in 1902 and this one was rebuilt in 1912.  It is the tallest structure in Venice at 323 feet tall, and there is a really cool view from the top.  We went to the Rialto Bridge and did some window shopping.  Venice is famous for its glass that is made on Murano island, one of the islands that make up Venice.  I bought a really cool glass elephant.

I fell asleep on the train to Venice and Katie took this picture of me. We still had to wear masks in Italy indoors, but luckily not outdoors.

St Mark's Basilica from the air.  It was cool because you could see all 5 of it's domes.
