Italy Trip Day 12

We went and saw the inside of the Pantheon.  There was a high school choir from Pennsylvania there singing in the Pantheon.  The acoustics were so cool.  then we went to the Vatican City and saw St. Peter's Basilica.  It is the largest cathedral in the world.  We went to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel where we had a guided tour that was very interesting. We had a late lunch and we think the owner of the restaurant thought the waiter was rude to us (we couldn't understand because they were speaking Italian) but they kept bringing us free food.  We had a 6 course meal and we only ordered 1.  It was super delicious and we were super hungry. Then we went up on top of the Victor Emmanuel Monument and saw the incredible view of Rome.  We went and watched the sun set from the Spanish Steps.  And sadly, we had our last gelato.

Christ, Peter on the left, Paul on the right and the Pope on the bottom
This was originally painted by Raphael.  They have since removed the original painting and put it in the Vatican Museum.  This is actually a mosaic now made of tiny little pieces of tile.

St Longinvs.  He was the Roman Centurion that was at Christ's crucifixion.  He was converted at that time and went on many missions and was eventually martyred for his beliefs.
